Azusa, Los Angeles County
Highway 39 leaves Azusa and follows the San Gabriel River into the mountains, past two large reservoirs and on toward Crystal Lake. The canyon mouth made the town a gateway for gold seekers in the 1850s and for weekend hikers today. The name comes from a Tongva village, though boosters long claimed it stood for everything from A to Z in the USA.
